Golden Visa Portugal


Golden Visa Portugal – Non Schengen citizens can benefit from a Portuguese government initiative that offers residence permits for those wishing to make investments in the country.

Holders of such permits may legally reside in Portugal and move freely throughout the Schengen area.


Citizens involved in an investment activity, either individually or through a company conducting at least one of the following operations in the Portuguese territory, for a minimum period of 5 (five) years:


1) Acquisition of Real Estate:


– Minimum investment equal or above € 500.000,00 or acquisition of real estate whose construction has been completed for at least 30 years and located in urban regeneration areas and carry out rehabilitation works on the real estate acquired in the global amount equal to or greater than € 350,000;

– Purchase of one or multiple properties;

– All property types qualify;

– Freedom to rent or lease. 


2) Capital transfer:


– Funds transferred from abroad to a bank in Portugal equal to or above € 1.000.000,00, with the freedom to invest the funds.;

– Capital transfer in an amount equal to or greater than € 350.000,00 which is applied in research activities undertaken by public or private institutions of scientific research, built on scientific and technological system;

– capital transfer in an amount equal to or greater than € 250.000,00 which is applied to investment or supporting artistic production, recovery or maintenance of national cultural heritage, through the services of central and peripheral administration, public institutes, entities that integrate the business public sector, public foundations, private foundations with public utility status, intermunicipales entities, entities that integrate the local business sector, local associations and public cultural organizations, pursuing assignments in the field of artistic production, recovery or maintenance of national cultural heritage;

– Capital transfer in an amount equal to or greater than € 500.000,00 for the purchase of units in mutual funds or venture capital geared to the capitalization of small and medium companies, which, for this purpose, present the respective plan of capitalization and the same is proven viable.


The beneficiaries of ARI / Golden Visa are entitled to:


  • Residence visa waiver for entering Portugal; 
  • Living and working in Portugal, on the condition that they stay in Portugal for a period of 7 or more days, in the first year, and 14 or more days, in the subsequent years; 
  • Visa exemption for travelling within the Schengen Area; 
  • Family reunification; 
  • Applying for permanent residence (pursuant to the Aliens Act – Act number 23/2007 of 4 July with the current wording);
  • Applying for Portuguese citizenship by naturalization, provided all other requirements set out by the Nationality Act are fulfilled (Act number 37/81 of 3 October, with the current wording
